Lees Wood : Scout Activity Centre

Lees Wood is a small, intimate site ideal for Beaver Scout or Raindow outdoor events, Cub Scout Pack or Brownie Pack Holidays, Guide & Scout Camps and District Activities. Recently, some small secluded woodland sites have been brought into use - great for Scout / Guide Patrols!  The whole area comprises 7 acres of camping area within a 47 acre woodland just 3 miles from the centre of Watford - so there's  plenty of activity space!

We offer a warm, friendly Scouting family atmosphere, all our staff are voluntary, with leaders and venture scout service crews available to help you over any problems and to assist in various forms of training.

Although the main camping area is surrounded by pine plantations there are still a good number of woodland flowers to be seen on and around the site.  In spring, large areas are carpeted by bluebells followed in the summer by foxgloves.  Many interesting fungi are seen in the late summer and autumn.

The woods support a large and varied bird population, Woodpeckers, Nuthatches and Tree Creepers nest here, besides the more common Blackbird, Thrush, Starling, Sparrow, Robin and Wren.  Large flocks of long tailed tits and Goldcrest are seen among the birch trees and other members of the tit family are fairly common. campsites uk

We have a climbing tower that is 30 feet tall and has 6 different climbs for all different types of climbers.

We can cater for the novice climber, on our 15 feet climb; up to the near impossible overhang for the more adventurous climber.

We provide all necessary equipment and qualified instructors so that any participant can enjoy their time on our wall whilst learning all the principles, which can be related to rock faces.

The climbing wall also has two 30 feet abseil faces.

We have an excellent assault course for our visitors to use. It contains a wall, balance beam, chain bridge, tyres, monkey bars, swing and scramble nets. There is also an extensive adjacent tunnel system suitable for all ages

At Lees Wood we have a .177 rifle range with 3 firing points.

We have our own instructors trained and qualified to relevant standards who willingly give up their time to allow our visitors to learn this activity in a safe and enjoyable fashion.

We have access to a full and exciting orienteering course in adjacent Whippendell Woods. The course has a full 15 bases, which can take up to 2 hours, or shorter courses, depending on time and competence.

We have a great variety of pioneering equipment for the use of any of our visitors.

We can also, if advised in advance, run or organise activities using the relevant equipment.

Due to the size and type of campsite at Lees Wood we always have plenty of conservation and forestry projects available for our campers and visitors to partake in (preferably with prior notice, so that necessary equipment is available).

Badge Courses & Backwoodsman Skills: It is possible for us to run any proficiency badge relating to camping or backwoodsman skills. Please give prior notice.
